Cheap Ideas...

Ceramic sharpening baton from IKEA 7$.Cheap and effective.
Basically, to sharpen anything, the sharpening material must be harder than the blade or metal object that needs sharpening.

  1. I just picked up the same thing, but for the kitchen. It's more of a honing tool, since it's too fine to do any major work on an edge... but perfect to maintain an edge.

no way would I bring that on a trip, however, since it's so heavy - but you can get those little 'V' honing/sharpening plastic kits to use in a pinch. They usually can come out, and be used to hone fishing hooks, too.
